Torchlight Infinite "Afterlight" Season Revealed: Fast-Paced Farming, Selena Rework, and a New Endgame

Published on: 7/12/2026

XD Games has officially pulled the curtain back on the next massive update for Torchlight: Infinite. The upcoming "Afterlight" season (also referred to as the Afterlife) promises to deliver the fastest farming loop the game has ever seen, alongside a sweeping overhaul to endgame progression, a brand-new hero trait for Selena, and the highly anticipated introduction of the game's third-ever Ultimate Legendary item.

Here is a breakdown of all the major features coming to Torchlight: Infinite in the new season.

The Afterlight Mechanic: The Night Watchers

The core of the new season revolves around a high-speed, high-density farming loop. Out in the Nether Realm, players will encounter unnamed coffins. Lighting the guiding lantern kicks off a funeral procession, dragging wandering wraiths directly to you. Your job as a Night Watcher is to clear the mobs, grab the loot, and keep the procession moving.

The mechanic uses a strict color-coded lantern system to dictate the pace:

  • Green: You are clearing fast, pulling wraiths at full speed, and maximizing loot.

  • Yellow: Your clear speed is lagging, and the field is getting crowded.

  • Red: Danger. The lantern is jammed, spawns stop, and purified souls can turn back into wraiths if you don't clear the pack fast enough.

This loop can be wildly enhanced with Golden Encounters, Wraith Blockades, and special variants like the Emperor's Golden Coffin, which spawns packs of powerful Royal Guards that open the highly rewarding Holy Ossuary.

Selena's "Dance of the Deep" and Terra Rework

Selena is receiving a brand-new hero trait: Dance of the Deep. In this new form, Selena is no longer tethered to casting from a fixed position. Instead, her Terra skills move with her like a mobile stage. As she dances, she generates a Crimson Tide that pulls enemies inward, eventually summoning Crimson Shades that cast devastating abilities alongside her.

To support this, the entire Terra system is receiving a massive overhaul. The developers have completely removed all affixes tied to Terra quantity caps. To compensate, base Terra skills are receiving massive buffs—base area is doubling from 3m to 6m, and base duration is doubling from 3 to 6 seconds. The update also introduces a slate of new Terra skills, including Nether Grasp, Stormfield, and Fallen Star, allowing for far more aggressive and mobile playstyles.

Unlocking the Nether King's Divinity

Endgame character building introduces a deep new optimization puzzle with the Nether King's Divinity system. This feature grants players access to an entirely fresh category of Divinity Slates powered by Divine Remnants. By feeding these materials to the slate, players can trigger complex board expansions, causing the grid to grow and branch into offspring slots that carry potent talents from the various Gods. Clever geometric management allows veterans to fully awaken three distinct Nether King authorities—Judgment, Contamination, and Banishment—unlocking incredibly powerful build variants that can completely alter the behavior of minion skills, mobility triggers, and raw stat caps.

Gearing Streamlined: The Sunset of Dream Interpretation

In a massive sweeping change to basic item progression, the development team has announced that Dream Interpretation is being fully retired. Over successive updates, the old system had generated severe friction, locking down optimal affix structures and introducing an overwhelming amount of repetitive gear grinding. To smooth out the gearing curve without sacrificing endgame power, the developers are transferring the highly popular "Sweet Dream" affixes into more accessible, universal item pools while significantly bolstering the scaling and versatility of baseline equipment modifiers.

The Third Ultimate Legendary

In the entire history of Torchlight: Infinite, there have only ever been two items granted the "Ultimate Legendary" title. This season introduces the third. This new Ultimate Legendary belt connects directly into the Six Gods talent panel and carries powerful, guaranteed blessings from three different Gods simultaneously, without any downsides. The developers tease that this will be the ultimate chase item of the season, capable of wildly expanding build possibilities depending on the specific God branches it rolls.

Divine Ascent: The New Endgame Mode

For players whose builds obliterate normal mapping, the developers are introducing Divine Ascent, a brand-new endgame challenge mode that officially replaces City Defense.

Operating on a strict 3-minute timer per floor, players must rapidly run through maps and fill a challenge progress bar by killing monsters or completing high-dimensional trial events. Filling the bar spawns the floor boss. If you demonstrate overwhelming performance (no deaths and plenty of time remaining), you can entirely skip lower-difficulty floors to instantly match your build's true power level. Divine Ascent features substantial first-clear rewards and dedicated leaderboards for every single hero trait.

Major Quality of Life Updates

The update is also packed with massive quality-of-life requests:

  • Trade House Anywhere: You can now click a "Check Price" button anywhere in the game (even in tooltips or the Nether Realm) to instantly pull up the Trade House and execute Quick Buys.

  • One-Tap Skill Leveling: A simple but glorious addition—click one button to instantly level up all eligible skills.

  • Amber's Rest Renovation: The main city hub is receiving a massive visual upgrade, complete with new lighting, greater scale, and a dedicated steampunk enclosure for the Nether Realm device.

  • Visual Glow-Ups: Spacetime Witness Youga, Commander Moto, and Forsaken Iris are all receiving highly refined character models.

The Horizon Ahead

By entirely stripping out the controversial Dream Interpretation mechanic, introducing a blistering new seasonal farming loop, and giving players a genuine endgame proving ground in Divine Ascent, the Afterlight season is shaping up to be one of the biggest updates in Torchlight: Infinite history.
