Surprise Reveal: New "Disciple of Varashta" Ascendancy Coming to Path of Exile 2

Published on: 12/11/2025
In a last-minute reveal that caught the community off guard, Grinding Gear Games has announced a third Ascendancy for the Sorceress class in Path of Exile 2: the Disciple of Varashta. The announcement dropped just hours before the rollout of the game’s latest major update, Patch 0.4, titled "The Last of the Druids."
While developers had previously hinted that a new Sorceress subclass was in the works, few expected it to arrive this quickly. According to Path of Exile 2 Creative Director Jonathan Rogers, the team was racing to include it in the update. "We really wanted to get it in, but didn't quite make it," Rogers had stated in a previous interview. It appears the team managed to pull it off at the eleventh hour, confirming the addition via X (formerly Twitter) despite it being absent from the initial patch notes.
Command the Djinn
The Disciple of Varashta offers a distinct departure from the Sorceress's traditional elemental blasting, allowing players to essentially "build their own summoner." This Ascendancy revolves around summoning and commanding magical entities known as Djinn.
Players will have access to three distinct variants of Djinn, each offering unique tactical advantages:
Fire Djinn
Water Djinn
Assassin Djinn
The subclass is designed with flexibility in mind. Each Djinn type comes with its own Command Skill, giving players active control over their minions' abilities. The skill tree allows for diverse build paths: players can choose to flood the battlefield by summoning multiple Djinn types simultaneously or focus on a specific type to passively buff their own stats, such as mana recovery.
New Patch & League Details
The new Ascendancy arrives alongside the massive Patch 0.4 "Last of the Druids", which marks a significant milestone for the game in Early Access. Key features of the update include:
New League: Fate of the Vaal, which introduces a mechanic allowing players to construct and conquer their own dungeons.
Free Weekend: To celebrate the launch, the game is hosting a free trial weekend open to all players.
New Class: The update officially adds the Druid class to the roster, the second additional class introduced since Early Access began.
For those new to the game, Ascendancies act as specialized subclasses chosen during Act 2 of the campaign, allowing for deep customization of a character's playstyle. With the Disciple of Varashta, the Sorceress now has a potent option for those who prefer to let their minions do the heavy lifting while they control the flow of battle.
