Progression is the heart of any ARPG, but feeling persistently underpowered just isn’t enjoyable. Over the weekend, the game’s forums and Reddit lit up with complaints urging GGG to rethink its approach. “FreshmeatOW” vented, “I canceled my vacation days for this. I’d rather work than play—it’s soulless, even for people who like slow combat.” Another player, “Thoughtsinhead,” added, “It’s not fun. No build tweak or passive feels rewarding—it’s all RNG gear lottery, not skill.” Some even likened the new support gems to Diablo 4’s old, overly niche modifiers—think “Bonus Damage on Tuesdays”—that Blizzard eventually scrapped.

Top streamers are piling on, too. Kjetil “Zizaran” called it one of his worst PoE experiences ever, while Lily “ds_lily” dubbed it the most miserable ARPG leveling she’s endured. “Empyrian” announced a break to stream WoW and Last Epoch instead, and Quinton “Quin69” Crawford bluntly warned, “Don’t play this right now—wait for patches. It’s not in a good state, and this isn’t what 1.0 will be.”

It’s early access, so GGG has room to pivot—experimentation comes with the territory. But after such a stellar debut that outshone its predecessor, this stumble stings. With Last Epoch Season 2 dropping April 17 and Diablo 4 Season 8 looming by month’s end, PoE 2’s window to recapture disillusioned players might be tight.
