New RTS Game Pays Homage to Command & Conquer

New RTS Game Pays Homage to Command & Conquer

Tempest Rising appears at first glance to be a nostalgic tribute to Command and Conquer, much like a boomer shooter for the RTS genre. However, Slipgate Ironworks has crafted a strategy game that stands out on its own merits. Fans of Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert will appreciate the Frank Klepacki soundtrack and clear references to GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod, but Tempest Rising offers more than just homage. Its campaign is exceptional, with a striking visual style and well-designed units. The only notable criticism has been aimed at its multiplayer, which faced limitations in queuing and game mode options. A recent update, Rally and Recon, tackles these issues head-on.

This update introduces key improvements for multiplayer. Players can now queue with friends for online matches, and a spectator mode has been added, along with the ability to chat from the main menu. The update also brings six new multiplayer maps—four tailored for 2v2 battles and two for 1v1 duels. Additionally, 2v2 ranked play is now fully supported. The Rally and Recon update is free for all players, and for newcomers, both the standard and deluxe editions of Tempest Rising are currently discounted by 20% until Thursday, July 10.
