Hell Unbound — A New ARPG Roguelike Based on Real World Brazilian History

Published on: 7/22/2025
Capturing Hell’s fiery lore has long enchanted developers, inspiring unforgettable games like Hades and Diablo. Today,we can add a new ARPG to that list, Hell Clock, a uniquely twisted roguelike coming out on Steam today.
The game drops players into the dark history of Brazil during the 1896–1897 War of Canudos. Hell Clock blends their dark fantasy world with real Brazilian history in an ARPG roguelike package that's trending on Steam with a 90% Very Positive rating. Developed by Rogue Snail, the game casts you as Pajeú, a clockmaker on a mission to reclaim his mentor’s lost soul. The once-real Canudos has morphed into purgatory, a battleground crawling with supernatural forces and echoes of a brutal past.
As for how it plays, the game has all the roguelike essentials: waves of enemies, layered dungeon runs, satisfying upgrades, and slick ARPG combat that feels like a fusion between Diablo and Hades. But where Hell Clock excels is its evolving narrative and emotionally driven storyline that is keeping gamers excited for all that the game holds.
The visuals are sharp and clean, without taking away from the ARPG action and dodging around the map. The customization of skills and different gearing options is proving deep, not just in the endgame. The developers even added a Relaxed Mode for those who prefer easing into the action. Overall, gamers are impressed and hoping that the devs will provide a bright future for this new up and coming ARPG.
Whether you’re a roguelike veteran or curious newcomer, Hell Clock might just deserve a spot in your Steam library.
