Grim Dawn v1.3.0 to Overhaul UI, Add Dedicated Component Storage, and Introduce "Orbs"

In the latest development update, Grim Misadventure #198, Crate Entertainment has unveiled significant changes coming to Grim Dawn in the upcoming v1.3.0 patch. While many fans are eagerly awaiting the Fangs of Asterkarn expansion, the developers clarified that these UI improvements will be available to all players—whether they own the base game or the expansions—starting with a public playtest in January.

A Scalable Main Menu

The first major change addresses a long-standing issue for players on 4K monitors and televisions. While Grim Dawn’s in-game UI has historically scaled well, the main menu often did not. The update will introduce a completely overhauled main menu designed to function better at higher resolutions.

In addition to under-the-hood fixes, the new menu features an improved layout and a larger, scrollable character list, making it easier for veterans with diverse builds to navigate their roster.

Stash Management Revolutionized

Perhaps the most exciting news for hoarders and crafters is the overhaul of the stash system. The update introduces two dedicated transfer stash tabs specifically for Components and Crafting materials.

To streamline gameplay, Crate is adding a button to the inventory window that automatically transfers all materials and components directly to these new stash tabs. Notably, this feature can be used from anywhere in the game world, eliminating the need to return to a Smuggler to offload crafting items.

Additional storage improvements include:

  • Customization: Players can now label and customize stash tabs to better organize specific collections (e.g., a tab specifically for "Caster Gear").

  • Base Game Buff: Owners of the base game will see their private tabs increase from one to three per character.

  • Expansion Buff: The Fangs of Asterkarn expansion will add four additional transfer tabs, bringing the maximum total to 10 general tabs plus the 2 dedicated material tabs.

HUD: To Orb or Not to Orb?

In a move described by the developers as potentially "controversial," v1.3.0 will introduce an optional Health and Energy Orb style HUD, catering to fans of the genre’s classic spherical aesthetic (popularized by titles like Diablo).

However, purists need not worry. The classic bar-style HUD has been visually refreshed and remains the default, with players able to toggle between the two styles in the game options.

Release Timeline

The v1.3.0 update is expected to enter public playtesting in January 2026, acting as a prelude to the Fangs of Asterkarn expansion later in the year.
