Fatshark Confirms New Darktide Class Coming in 2026; Adeptus Mechanicus Fans Hopeful

Developer Fatshark has officially confirmed that another playable character is in development for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and is slated for release later in 2026. The news comes via a "Year in Review" update, reigniting speculation among the community about which corner of the grimdark universe will be represented next.
"In the Works for Quite Some Time"
Following a busy 2025 that saw the release of four major updates, 11 events, and two DLC classes (including the "Hive Scum" released last year), Fatshark teased that their next addition is already deep in development.
"The next class has already been in the works for quite some time now, and we can't wait to show you more when the time is right," the developer stated. However, they noted that there is at least one other content release planned before the new character drops, so players will have to "wait a bit" for the official reveal.
The Hope for the Omnissiah
The announcement has immediately fueled speculation that the game might finally introduce an Adeptus Mechanicus archetype. Fans of the "Machine God" were notably disappointed last year when the rumored new class turned out to be the Hive Scum rather than a Tech-Priest or Skitarii.
While a high-ranking Tech-Priest might be too powerful or politically important to fit into a squad of penal legion rejects, a lower-ranking Enginseer or a disgraced Skitarii Ranger would fit perfectly within Darktide's established lore. The game already features heavy industrial themes and Servitor NPCs, making a tech-focused character a logical—and highly requested—addition to the roster.
For now, players will have to wait for Fatshark to break their silence. Until then, the forges of speculation are burning hot.
