Farewell, For Now: Path of Exile’s Mercenaries League Bows Out Before the Next Expansion

As the 3.27 expansion launches on October 31, Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has confirmed that the league-exclusive Mercenaries system will be removed at the end of the current league (October 27). When the league ends:
All your Mercenaries will be deleted, and any items they held will go into “remove-only” tabs.
Unique items tied to the Mercenary League will enter the global drop pool.
The “Trarthan Gems” will become rewards obtainable from Heist gem chests.
Unfinished league challenges should be completed before the deadline (5:00 p.m. Eastern / 8:00 p.m. Pacific on October 27).
Although Mercenaries will be gone for now, GGG has stated they still love the mechanic and plan to bring it back in the future. That said, it will not return immediately in patch 3.27. Instead, they intend to take time to assess and refine how Mercenaries fit into the core game (e.g. balance adjustments and integrations).
