Set to drop sometime this spring, Wrath of the Ancients is gearing up to inject Everspace 2 with a hefty dose of new quests, perils, and shiny loot. The fragile truce between humans and the Okkar is under threat as mysterious attacks rock settlement 34, hinting at an ancient danger stirring in the distance. As you venture beyond Colonial space, expect to tangle with alien wormholes, brutal radiation zones, and eerie ruins.
Kicking things off, players are finally heading back to Aethon—a star system tied to the main story’s big finale but previously off-limits for return trips. Wrath of the Ancients opens it up again, though it’s no picnic: think warship graveyards, radiation-soaked fields, and scavengers picking through wrecks under the glow of a volatile red star.
Next up is the Khait Dominion, the nearest Okkar rim system to Colonial turf and a deeply revered spot for the reptilian Okkar. It’s where tensions flared in the past when humans pushed too close, and now you’ll need to poke around there to unravel the expansion’s mysteries. With solemn monuments and a bizarre natural wormhole possibly linked to the ancients, it’s a treasure trove of secrets.
Deeper into Okkar territory lies the Rhak Homeworlds, the bustling core of their civilization. Picture sprawling megastructures blanketing planets and massive orbital stations floating nearby. Orbiting two stars—one ringed by eerie plasma fields—this region still bears scars from the human-Okkar war, even ten years after the fighting stopped.
Lastly, there’s the enigmatic ‘Forbidden System,’ an ancient Okkar religious hub where outsiders are practically unheard of. Getting in is no small feat, and Rockfish is keeping tight-lipped about how you’ll end up there—or whether the locals will roll out the welcome mat.
