Dragonkin: The Banished Unveils Major Multiplayer Features

Published on: 1/1/2026

The developers of the Action RPG Dragonkin: The Banished have released a comprehensive breakdown of their upcoming online multiplayer update. Targeting an Early 2026 release, this update aims to transform the solitary dragon-hunting experience into a shared adventure for friends and communities.

The City of Montescail: A Shared Hub

At the heart of the multiplayer experience is the Online City, a massive social hub capable of hosting up to 50 players (with 32 able to be online simultaneously). These cities act as the central gathering point for guilds and friend groups.

  • City Groups: Within the city, players are organized into smaller "groups" of 4, which function as your primary party for tackling Story or Endgame content.

  • City Evolution: All players in a city contribute to its evolution, unlocking bonuses and upgrades that benefit everyone.

  • Management: City owners can manage ranks and permissions. If an owner leaves or a city is destroyed, players do not lose their characters; they simply enter a "non-city" state until they join or create a new home.

Seamless Co-op Gameplay

The update is designed to make playing with friends as frictionless as possible. The game supports 4-player co-op for both the main campaign and high-level "Chaos Hunts."

  • Level Catcher System: To ensure friends of different levels can play together, a new system allows lower-level players to quickly catch up in power to the highest-level party member.

  • Scaling Difficulty: Enemies will scale their health and damage based on the number of players, and their level will match the strongest hero in the group.

  • Instant Teleportation: Players can teleport to a friend's exact location instantly from the menu, with the only exception being during major Dragon Lord boss fights.

  • Revive Mechanic: Fallen allies can be brought back into the fight, keeping the action flowing.

Freedom of Movement and Loot

A core philosophy of the update is flexibility. Players are not locked into one mode or one group.

  • Character Transfer: You can freely move your characters between Offline and Online modes, or between different Cities, at any time. You keep your inventory, gold, and resources, though you will swap your old City's bonuses for the new ones.

  • Friend-Oriented Economy: There is no global auction house or trading post. Instead, loot sharing is personal and direct. You can drop items on the ground for friends or place them in a Shared City Chest for guildmates to use.

While the multiplayer update is a major focus, the developers emphasized that Dragonkin will remain fully playable as an offline, single-player experience for those who prefer to hunt alone.
