Diablo 4: Season 8 Breaks the Game While Season 9 Looms on the Horizon

Published on: 5/18/2025
Blizzard’s Diablo 4 continues to evolve, with Season 8: Belial’s Return bringing fresh challenges, balance updates, and a few unexpected surprises. Blizzard has tried to re-balance some of the game mid-season with very little success as Boss Powers dominate much fo the game regardless of build choices. However, despite the current Season 8 being a complete mess, Blizzard is already preparing for Season 9, with a Public Test Realm (PTR) scheduled for May 22 to preview upcoming changes.
Season 8: Belial’s Return?
The latest update introduced new boss mechanics, balance adjustments, and bug fixes aimed at refining gameplay. Some of the biggest changes include:
- Buffs to several classes, including Barbarian, Druid, and Necromancer.
- Fixes for broken mechanics, such as the Crown of Lucion and various dungeon interactions.
- Updates to seasonal content, making bosses tougher or easier depending on the situation.
A Game-Breaking Build?
Players have discovered a powerful combo that’s so strong it’s reportedly crashing servers. By combining certain seasonal boss powers with the Vampiric Curse Legendary Aspect, players can trigger an infinite loop of damage, causing severe lag across the game. Blizzard has yet to address the issue, but given its impact, a fix is likely incoming.
There is also several other power combinations that make any build stronger than ever, with Blizzard doing very little to attempt to stop this from happening. It seems this season can't be recovered from, so Blizzard is looking ahead.
Season 9 PTR Incoming
Despite Season 8 still being in full swing, Blizzard is already looking ahead to Season 9, with a PTR set for May 22. This early preview will allow players to test upcoming changes, including a new Dungeon Escalation activity. The full season is expected to launch around July 1, based on in-game battle pass timers.
Hopefully we will see Season 9 come with alot more polish and better systems.
