Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR Brings Major War Plans Changes, New Horadric Items, and Class Rebalancing

Published on: 10/26/2026

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed the details for Diablo 4's upcoming 3.3.0 Public Test Realm (PTR), giving players their first opportunity to experience several major changes arriving with Season 16. Running from October 27 through November 3, 2026, the PTR will introduce significant improvements to the War Plans system, powerful new Horadric Items, additional seasonal progression options, and extensive class balance adjustments.

The update focuses heavily on improving player choice and build customization, while also expanding the rewards available through existing endgame activities. Several of these changes will affect both Seasonal and Eternal characters, making this one of the more substantial system updates planned for Diablo 4's next season.

War Plans Receive Major Customization Improvements

One of the biggest additions coming with patch 3.3.0 is War Plans Tactics, a new progression system that allows players to influence which activities and rewards appear in their War Plans. By completing War Plans activities, players earn points that can be invested into different nodes, increasing the likelihood of encountering their preferred content.

Players can invest up to three points into individual activity nodes, including Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons, with additional options to prioritize Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons. Reward nodes will provide similar customization, allowing players to target specific resources such as weapons, armor, jewelry, crafting materials, gold, and Talisman items.

A new currency called Marks of Wisdom will also be introduced, allowing players to respec their War Plans Tactics and individual activity trees without spending gold. These improvements should give players considerably more control over their endgame progression, reducing some of the randomness involved in farming specific activities and rewards.

Tyrael's Boons Expand Seasonal Progression

Season 16 will introduce Tyrael's Boons, a new seasonal War Plans progression tree that offers additional opportunities to customize rewards and progression. Players can earn up to 132 points to invest across four different paths, each focusing on a specific aspect of the game's economy and reward systems.

These paths include Curious Addition, which improves rewards from the Purveyor of Curiosities, and Merchant of Mystery, which introduces a new Torment-difficulty vendor selling item caches. Scent of Gold focuses on increasing experience, gold, and material drops, while Trash for Treasure improves salvaging and crafting rewards.

One particularly interesting addition is Greater Temper, a new Horadric Cube recipe that allows players to upgrade an item's Tempered Affix into a Greater Affix. The recipe requires 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite, potentially giving players another powerful method of optimizing their endgame equipment.

Tyrael's Boons will operate alongside the existing Seasonal Blessings system, giving players additional progression options without replacing previously established mechanics.

New Horadric Items and a Dangerous Boss Encounter

Itemization is also receiving another layer of customization with the introduction of Horadric Items. These Legendary items feature special affixes that interact directly with Talisman set bonuses, creating new opportunities for players to combine equipment effects and strengthen their builds.

Horadric jewelry can increase the effective set count of a specific Talisman set, allowing players to activate a two-piece bonus with only a single corresponding Charm equipped. Weapons and armor will instead offer additional effects when players activate the required Talisman bonuses, including increased skill ranks, additional damage, and defensive improvements.

Season 16 will also introduce a new boss encounter featuring the Corrupted Reaper and Fractured Reaper. Rather than fighting independently, these two enemies will combine their abilities to create a more dangerous encounter, challenging players with coordinated attacks and powerful mechanics. Blizzard promises substantial rewards for those capable of overcoming the encounter.

Extensive Class Changes and PTR Testing

Alongside the new progression systems, patch 3.3.0 includes a lengthy collection of class adjustments aimed at improving build diversity and balancing underperforming skills. Barbarians will receive improvements to abilities such as Double Swing and Frenzy, while Druids are undergoing more significant changes to skill tagging, Spirit Boons, and Paragon interactions.

Necromancers will also see improvements to several core abilities, including Bone Spear, Blood Lance, and Blood Surge, alongside changes to the Book of the Dead. Additional adjustments across the remaining classes will provide players with plenty of opportunities to experiment with new builds before Season 16 officially launches.

The PTR will be available exclusively on PC through Battle.net, with Blizzard providing character boosts, crafting materials, equipment, and progression unlocks to streamline testing. Player feedback will help determine which balance adjustments and systems receive further changes before the update reaches the live game.

With major War Plans improvements, expanded character customization, and another round of substantial class updates, Season 16 is shaping up to be an important step forward for Diablo 4's endgame experience.
