Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight: The Warlock Joins the Ranks of Sanctuary

Published on: 2/13/2026

The 30th anniversary of the Diablo franchise has arrived with a hellish roar, bringing one of the most significant updates in the series' history. Blizzard has officially unveiled that the Warlock class is coming to Diablo 4, Diablo 2: Resurrected, and Diablo Immortal, marking a unified expansion of dark magic across the entire franchise.

Described by Blizzard as "heavy metal" and defined by chains, flames, and destructive power, the Warlock offers a fresh alternative to the traditional summoner archetypes of the Necromancer and Witch Doctor.

Here is a breakdown of what the Warlock brings to each game, along with the massive systems updates accompanying this anniversary celebration.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred & The "Heavy Metal" Summoner

In Diablo 4, the Warlock joins the roster as part of the upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion, launching April 28, 2026.

The narrative stakes are higher than ever. Mephisto has possessed the heavenly Akarat, spreading corruption across Sanctuary. To stop him, players will reportedly team up with the Daughter of Hatred herself, Lilith, to put an end to the "bloodied wolf."

Key Features Coming to Diablo 4:

  • War Plans System: A new endgame feature that allows players to "favorite" five of seven endgame activities. Completing these unlocks a unique skill tree to customize how those events play out.

  • Skill Tree Overhaul: A massive update adding over 20 new skill options and 40+ changes to existing trees.

  • The Talisman: Charms are returning, but without the inventory clutter. They will now be stored in a dedicated "Talisman" interface, offering improved bonuses for collecting full sets.

  • Horadric Cube: The iconic item-forging tool makes its return.

  • Echoes of Hatred: A new wave-based survival mode where players fight randomized enemies.

  • Quality of Life: The long-requested Loot Filter and a new Fishing System are finally being added.

More details on the Warlock’s specific mechanics will be revealed in a developer update on March 5.

Diablo 2: Resurrected – Reign of the Warlock

For the first time in over 25 years, Diablo 2 is receiving a brand-new class. The Reign of the Warlock update is live right now.

In D2R, the Warlock is a dedicated demon summoner. Players can conjure entities like Goatmen, Tainted, and Defilers. The class mechanic allows you to bind yourself to a specific demon to utilize its abilities or consume its lifeforce for unique buffs.

Additional D2R Updates:

  • Loot Filter: Finally added to the classic experience.

  • Stash Overhaul: Advanced tabs for materials, gems, and runes, plus item stacking.

  • Terror Zones Evolved: On Hell difficulty, players will face "Heralds of Terror"—bosses that return stronger every time you defeat them.

Note: The Warlock class is included in the "Infernal Edition" on Steam but is not available to Game Pass subscribers.

Diablo Immortal: Return to Lut Gholein

Mobile players will get their hands on the Warlock in Summer 2026. Immortal’s version of the class wields a demon skull and sacrificial knife, summoning a "Soulgorger" companion that grows stronger by consuming foes.

This update also heralds the return of the iconic desert city Lut Gholein and the Lesser Evil Andariel, bringing a wave of nostalgia alongside the new content.

Whether you are grinding Helltides in Diablo 4 or revisiting the classics in Resurrected, the Warlock class promises to bring a new level of carnage to Sanctuary. Eyes up, nephalem—April 28 will be here before you know it.
