Borderlands 4 Gets "Legend of the Stone Demon" DLC and the Return of Pearlescent Loot

Gearbox Software is gearing up for a massive few weeks for Borderlands 4, starting with the imminent release of Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon. Set to launch on Thursday, February 26, the DLC brings a brand new mission chain, a new Vault Card, and the highly anticipated return of an ultra-rare loot tier: Pearlescent gear.

This release is poised to serve as the perfect appetizer ahead of the game's first major story expansion, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, arriving in March.

Legend of the Stone Demon: What to Expect

Following the slightly undercooked (and ultimately made free) first Bounty Pack, Legend of the Stone Demon aims to set the standard for what players can expect from these paid add-ons.

The new DLC sends players delving into an ancient cavern alongside diminutive companion Defiant Calder to put an end to the Augers—a faction performing ritual human sacrifices to the titular "Stone Demon." The pack includes:

  • A Boss-Heavy Mission: The questline features three distinct mini-bosses leading up to a climactic main encounter.

  • New Threats: Players will face off against newly introduced "Ordonite-encrusted" enemy types.

  • Vault Card 2: A fresh Vault Card featuring 24 new cosmetics and four pieces of re-rollable Legendary gear.

Bounty Pack 2 will be automatically available for players who purchased the Deluxe or Super Deluxe editions of Borderlands 4.

The Return of Pearlescent Gear

Perhaps the most exciting news for long-time franchise fans is arriving as a free update alongside the DLC. Pearlescent loot, the notoriously elusive rarity tier popularized in the first two Borderlands games, is officially making a comeback.

While Pearlescents historically relied on one-in-a-million randomized drops, Gearbox is taking a slightly different approach for Borderlands 4. The update will introduce a new, repeatable world event with set locations across the Fadefields, Carcadia Burn, and Terminus Range. This will allow all players to specifically target-farm for Pearlescent items.

Note: While the rarity tier and farming events are free for all players, Gearbox has confirmed that certain specific Pearlescent items will be exclusive to owners of paid content like Bounty Pack 2.

The Road to March

This Bounty Pack sets the stage for the looter-shooter's biggest content drop yet. Once players have conquered the Stone Demon and farmed their new Pearlescent weapons, they won't have to wait long for the next chapter. March will see the launch of the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned story expansion, which notably includes the debut of the game's fifth playable Vault Hunter, C4SH.

For players looking for a reason to jump back into the chaotic world of Borderlands 4, February 26 looks like the perfect time to lock and load.
